Groundbreaking eight-time Grammy award-winning musician Eddie Palmieri dies aged 88 after ‘prolonged sickness’
GRAMMY Award winner Eddie Palmieri has died on the age of 88.
The rumba and jazz musician died at his house in New Jersey on Wednesday.

He died following an “prolonged sickness,” his daughter, Gabriela, advised The New York Instances.
Music legend Palmieri, coined because the “Madman of Salsa,” was the primary Latino artist to win a Grammy Award.
Throughout his illustrious profession, he picked up one other seven Grammy Awards.
Palmieri, from Harlem, New York, was a highly-revered pianist and first realized to play the instrument when he was a toddler.
He began studying on the age of eight, and his brother Charlie, was an expert pianist. Charlie, generally known as the Big of the Keyboards, died in 1988.
“It was my mom who put my brother on the instrument and I got here alongside 9 years later,” Palmieri advised The Savannah Morning Information in 2009.
“No different brothers or sisters, it was simply us. I used to be fairly blessed.”
However, he was fascinated by the drums and determined to play the timbales in his uncle’s orchestra.
He then modified course and returned to taking part in the piano.
“I am a pissed off percussionist, so I take it out on the piano,” Palmieri stated.
Palmieri performed alongside stars comparable to Johnny Segul and Tito Rodriguez earlier than he launched La Perfecta, his personal band, in 1961.
He received his first Grammy Award in 1975 for his album The Solar of Latin Music.
His success continued into the Eighties, scooping one other two Grammy Awards.

Palmieri labored with Tito Puente and their album Masterpiece noticed the duo choose up two Grammy gongs.

The Latin Recording Academy has led the tributes to Palmieri.

The group described him as a “pioneer of salsa” and a “visionary of Latin jazz.”

Palmieri has been described as a “salsa pioneer” however he wasn’t a large fan of the phrase.
In a 2012 Smithsonian interview, he described his music as “Afro-Cuban.”

He is survived by their 5 kids and 4 grandchildren.
